“Ohio based feature film ‘Horrors of War’ to
be released in North America November 6th, 2007”
Columbus, Ohio – October 6th, 2007 The independent
film ‘Horrors of War’ will be released from Maverick
Entertainment on DVD November 6th, 2007 in North America.
The DVD will have a commentary track, behind the scenes,
and other special features. The film has already been an
official selection at 20 film festivals and has won awards
for the filmmakers at the Columbus International Film Festival,
Fright Night Film Festival, and other genre festivals. Horrors
of War was shot entirely in Ohio with an all Ohio cast and
crew.
“We made a ‘Grindhouse’ style movie, like
PLANET TERROR, or a ‘B’ Movie you would have
seen on a Saturday matinee,” says Peter John Ross,
co-director of the film. “We’re excited that
it’s finally coming out on DVD in the U.S.”
Horrors of War takes place in Europe in World War II, centering
on a group of soldiers that encounter science fiction and
horror based phenomena in battle. Crossing genres of shows
like “X-Files” and “Band of Brothers,” the
storyline follows Lt. John Schmidt as he comes face to face
with a horde of Nazi secret weapons. “Horrors of War” was
made in a B-movie style, yet with a dramatic grounding and
an eye for bigger production values.
“It’s rare for a feature film to be entirely
shot and made in Ohio” says Phil Garrett, the films
producer. “We even did our post production here with
all local companies. We have all the resources to make movies
here.”
Several fixtures from Columbus’ burgeoning film scene
contributed to the making of ‘Horrors of War’.
From local production companies either donating or lowering
rates to accommodate the low budget production, to people
of every level of experience giving their time to help the
production, the film benefited from the community.
“There’s no way we could have done this movie
anywhere else”, says John Whitney, co-director and
co-writer of the film. “Everyone got behind this ambitious
project and I think we made something special. It’s
not everyday you get to make a period World War II movie
with zombies and werewolves and have this much fun.”
The DVD will be released through traditional retail outlets
like Best Buy, and is already available for pre-order on
Amazon.com. The Blockbuster chain is also set to have copies
for rent. The filmmakers have also put for sale on Amazon.com
the Illustrated Screenplay featuring storyboards and production
design for the film, emulating the marketing of bigger budget
Hollywood films.
